Peter Douglas Miller Stirling-Aird of Kippendavie, TD, of Kippenross,
by Dunblane, Perthshire, & Lansdowne Rd, London W11, died 10 July,
2004, aged 89.

He was born 13 March, 1915, only son of Kenneth Aird (d. 1941), of
Richmond, Surrey, and was educated at Sherborne.

Career: served in the Second World War with the 52nd [L] Division and
the 2nd Armoured Division [Royal Artillery], promoted Major in 1943,
Europe 1944-45 [mentioned in despatches]; he received the Croix de
Guerre, Chevallier of the Order of Leopold; Managing Dircetor, R & A
Main Ltd, 1958-62; Chairman, Society of British Gas Industries,
1962-63; Member: Royal Thames Yacht, Hurlingham, and Sheffield Clubs.

He was twice married, firstly,in 1942, to Penelope Ann, the younger
daughter of Patrick Douglas Stirling, OBE, MC, JP, of Philipstoun
House, Linlithgow, by who he had two sons and two daughters. He
married secondly, in 1973, Lady Margaret Dorothea (nee Boyle, b.
1920), former wife of Capt Oliver Payan Dawnay, CVO, of the Viscounts
Downe, and daughter of the 8th Earl of Glasgow.

His elder daughter Merial Stirling-Aird, married 1971 (div. 1979) John
Robert Stirling-Home-Drummond-Moray, son of Major James William
Stirling-Home-Drummond-Moray, of that landed family, by his wife
Jeanetta Ruth Montagu-Douglas-Scott, of the Dukes of Buccleuch and
Queensberry.

A Service of Thanksgiving takes place at St Mary's Episcopal Church,
Dunblane, Perthshire, Friday 16 July, 2004.

His widow, Lady Margaret Stirling-Aird, died 17 Oct, 2021, aged 100.
