Dame Barbara Windsor - star of EastEnders for decades - dies aged 83
Dame Barbara Windsor - best known for her roles as Peggy Mitchell in EastEnders and in the Carry On films - has died aged 83.
She passed away peacefully at 8.35pm on Thursday December 10, 2020, at a London care home with her husband Scott Mitchell by her side.
Mr Mitchell said her final weeks were "typical of how she lived her life", being "full of humour, drama and a fighting spirit until the end".
In a moving tribute, he called her his "precious Bar" and said: "I've lost my wife, my best friend and soul mate and my heart or life will never feel the same without you."
The beloved soap and film star was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2014, going public with the news four years later.
Known as The Queen Vic's fiesty landlord, her character Peggy famously yelled "get outta my pub!" at rogue drinkers and was an EastEnders stalwart.
