John Colum Crichton-Stuart,7th Marquess of Bute,born
April 26th 1958,died on or shortly before March 22nd 2021
according to various Scottish media outlets.

He had dropped out of school to become a racing driver
before succeeding to the family titles and estates.

His son succeeds to all the titles now,but has no son
of his own,so next in line to the Marquessate of Bute
and associated male-line titles would be the late
peer's brother while next in line to the Earldom of
Dumfries inherited in a past century from an heiress
would be the new peer's sister.(A son to the new peer
would displace both,a daughter only the sister).

The late peer was the only hereditary peer with a
birthday of April 26th,the new peer becomes the only
one with a birthday of December 21st.

The male line of this family have a history of not
living very long,in contrast to some others,and they

He had dropped out of school to become a racing driver
before succeeding to the family titles and estates.

In the absence of further detail, one might conclude that he dabbled in
racing without much success before acceeding to the Marquessate, when in
fact he was Ayrton Senna's teammate on the John Player Special Lotus
Formula 1 team in 1986 before going on to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans in
1988 driving a Jaguar XJR-9 for the TWR/Silk Cut Jaguar Team.

The Le Mans win was certainly the high-water mark of his professional
racing career, but he had previously won the 1984 British Formula 3
championship in decisive fashion, winning 10 of 17 races that season.
