She was born Judith Aileen Dyble, 13 February, 1949, a daughter of Albert Stephen Dyble [1914-78], by his wife the former Jessica Mary [Jessie] Collyer [1912-89]; married 1970, the DJ and music writer Simon Stable, whose real name was Simon Christian Michael de la Bédoyère [1939-94], a descendant of the Thorold baronets, the son of the writer Count Michael de la Bédoyère [1900-73], who edited the Catholic Herald for nearly 30 years. Her husband predeceased her in 1994. She is survived by their daughter, Stephanie Joanna de la Bédoyère [born 1980], and son Daniel Hugh G. de la Bédoyère [born 1977], who leads the Glastonbury morris dance troupe.

She was an 18-year-old librarian and part-time folk club singer with no aspirations for a career in music when a group of friends invited her to join a new band they were forming in North London....
